Its Cold!

A very short blog.........saw this, got distracted from what I was doing and thought of our Poet's Club.......... This thing has been lurking in my mind for years! I don't recall who wrote it!
I'm indoors looking at the mail which includes an ESA50 form which seems to be enquiring about the small matter of my MS. It indicates that as the government can no longer afford to credit my NI (The only thing that I claim), its reasonable to assume that they can now simply ignore me entirely! I wonder what they did with all my NI contributions over the 37 years I was working! ........... Anyway here's the poem! I love it!

Cold as charity, cold and glum

Cold as the hairs on a Polar Bear's bum

Cold as charity

Cold and chilly

But not as cold as our John Willie

He's dead - poor bastard "

Nick, you only need 30 years worth of NI to be entitled to the maximum state Pension. So, it was probably a waste of money giving you the money to pay them the NI! :what:

Not so! State Pension consists of 'basic' and S2P (State second Pension) This is the additional element if employed, not if self employed, which is gained if you are 'contracted in' to the state system...As it happens my pension (Merchant navy) was 'contracted out' However I am now effectively in limbo !
ESA is means tested,(Despite what you are told) so in my case I am not entitled to any payment but am still entitled to 'ESA Credits only' I have in fact over 40 years worth of working contributions but at present see the value of the S2P element increasing in the order of £1.50 per week for each year. I am now 'contracted in' So as I am now 57 years old I have until the age of 66 (New Retirement age) to increase that element...... 9 years at £1.50 per week is a tad over £700 a year I will lose this as well if the new regulations on ESA see me totally excluded.

Stumbler.......The devil is in the detail! Like many, my very small private pension is not indexed linked so I shall need to rely on the State pension as inflation takes its toll! It has also excluded me from all state assistance with the exception of DLA which looks to undergoing radical change as we speak!

I bow to your greater expertise. Nick.

You've obviously looked into this in some detail.

I too am very confused and confuddled over the state pension age, and the NI. Credits.

I had enough credits I was told, I was also told that ESA would continue to buy my 'stamp'. I also has a letter to say I couldn't obtain state pension until I reach 66 years!

When I started to pay NI, my retirement age was 55 !

Talk about moving the goal posts! No wonder everyone is disgruntled over the proposed ( yeah right!) pension changes!

Like the poem, don't like the cold. The snow has began to melt here I think, there's been lots of dripping going on.

Hi Nick

The words of your poem took me away from "pension, state or otherwise" I'm sorry, i haven't got my sensible head on. Anyway, why is charity cold? My charity starts at home, which at the moment is gloriously warm (trying not to think of the next bill) and as for your last two lines, i confess i made up my own ending, still about the polar bear, but not printable.
The snow here is melting too, and thanks to my neighbour i have a clear drive which is now glazing over with ice....Yippee...more rock salt here i come.....

Take care.
