Hello Guys,

Still battling with my ESA ( and I haven't even started a battle for DLA yet.Geez)

Anyway, after much toing and froing to 'back to work interviews' at the job centre, I was called for a medical so that they will pay my N.I contributions.

Medical Centre for 60 miles away ! So, I had to drive to my Dads last night (51 miles) spend the night there, then get a taxi back to Guildford, as the nearest car park was too far away for me to walk to the medical centre. I asked if they could allocate me a parking space, intstead of them having to re-pay me £50 in taxi fees, but they insisted I take a taxi !

Anyway, pitched up, a lovely doctor called me in bang on time........and once settled down, he apologised......??? I told him I had my full medical file, prescriptions, ID etc all with me.........

"No Need, he says, I have all the information from your GP and Neuro" ?????

He apologised agian and said "On behalf of the system, I apologise again, you should never have been called for a medical at all, and we will refund all your travel expenses."

Dumfounded, they then called my taxi for me.

I managed to ask if I would need another medical for the DLA allowance and he replied that "No, that was it"

So after being away from home for 24 hours, much driving, and expense..........I needn't have gone !!.................. lol4.gif

Still it was nice to spend the evening with my aged Father, who incidently, cooked me a rather nice dinner last night !....Hurrah !

So, if anybody out there is concerned about an ESA medical.......................don't be !

Hi Scully

I was quite surprised when reading your post. You would think that they would've contacted you beforehand so that you wouldn't of travelled. Hopefully all will go well and good luck filling in the form for DLA (I'm still wading through it)

Thanks for sharing Scully. I'm glad that despite the journey you got to spend time with your father. Hopefully, they will now sign you off indefinately. Fingers crossed.

Neither can I. dunno.gif

"Indefinitely", on the other hand, means not defined. It is often misinterpreted as "for ever" but it just means they are not putting a limit on it now.

I have DLA indefinitely which means until they catch me running a marathon or until I apply for the higher care component (the latter being the more likely). They then reassess it. Until then, assuming the government do not tell them to look for savings by reassessing everyone now, I will just keep on getting it.

Regards

Hi Guys,

I think it's not the individual officers involved, more the system as a whole, and as I've just replied to John (Heste) on another post, it's not the diagnosis thats in question, it's the 'effect' on that diagnosis, on the individual that matters to them.

Have to say that the Doctor I saw, was very caring and very nice, and, I think he would have been, even if they hadn't already gained all the info they needed.

As a very first visit to the benefit system, I found it hard, and very wearing, but there is now, I see, a very valuable point to all of the forms, visits and medicals we go through.

It seems that in a lot of areas in the country, the various assessments centres are a tad few and far between, hence the travelling !

But it was so great to see Dad, watch TV together, have a meal together, and have tea and toast at 7.00 am this morning......................I must do it more often I think !

Thanks for all your replies
