Hi everyone,
I decided to give an Aqua fitness class a try yesterday and found it good so thought I'd tell you about it.

For anyone who doesn't know it's like an aerobics class in a swimming pool. The water supports you so there's less impact on your joints than a class on dry land. Another benefit of being in the water is that no-one can see if you're doing it right or not squiffy.gif I was really pleasantly surprised as I was able to keep up without major discomfort and being in the water meant that I didn't overheat.

It was a 45minute session and I'm certain if I'd been trying to do the same exercises on dry land it would have been a miracle if I lasted 15 lolbash.gif

Hi Cara,

Sounds good, glad you enjoyed it. I have started going to Pilates which is good for control & relaxation but I miss doing something moe aerobic. My local pool does classes so I will look into it, sounds more fun than swimming.

Hi Trudy,
I do Pilates too and also a class called Body Balance which is a mixture of Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga. The Body Balance class, while not screamingly aerobic, is definitely harder work than Pilates - it's really a choreographed routine to music. I "glow" in a most unladylike fashion during that one!!

Hope you enjoy it if you do try it out hearts_circle.gif

Hi Girls,
No major gliches afterwards. My right calf muscle was a bit more tight but I was able to do my pilates class yesterday morning and it's back to normal today. Generally today my limbs are feeling a quite heavy but that's normal for me by the end of the week and it's pretty sticky and humid here too.

My sleepy fatigue has been much better actually - I do find that exercise really helps with that, even if it is sometimes an effort to drag myself there. Sometimes during the body balance class it's an effort to drag myself of the floor lol4.gif If I don't get any exercise I really notice a change in my mood and get really restless.

Another tip following this morning's class...

When you have a lot of ladies (at my gym 20+) in a class at the same time the changing room gets kind of busy. Last week I was lucky enough to get the last free shower and get out - don't think my legs would have liked queueing (is that how you spell it? looks really wrong to me dunno.gif). It occurred to me yesterday that I don't need to - my gym allow me to use a low level access door because of my MS & also have a separate disabled changing room that I'd never used so I decided to try it today. I had the whole room to myself...bliss cheerleader.gif

So, the moral of the story is, if the facilities are available try them out.

From a mans point of view, what a waste

I have problems with the word colleague and putting which looks like putt - ing to me.

Do you not have a red squigly line under a misspelt word ?

Andy

Great tip thanks Cara glad the exercise is going well. Am still looking into Aqua aerobics but the class times outside of my work hours are quite late in evening so don't have much energy by then.

I am hoping to get a dog as love dog walking and find it relaxing as well as being good exercise. Have wanted to for have wanted to for years but it has never been fair to the dog as had a job which involved unsociable hours quite a lot of travel. Now I don't have such demanding work and my partner is at home through the day I think it could work, my family have always had German Shepherds/labradors so I do have a good idea of what we would be taking on.

Anyone have any advice on dog owning/things to consider when you have MS?

I do indeed Andy - in American English for the forum so I don't trust it. One day I will change the setting lolsign.gif

I have three canine companions Trude and think I may have gone mad (well maybe more mad lol4.gif) without them. I spent 9 months working from home and unable to drive so they became my constant companions during the days when my hubby was working. They are bouncy, exuberant terriers and seem to be attuned to my energy levels - hubby walks through the door and chaos reigns, they bounce, bark and want cuddles. Somedays I get this, sometimes when I'm knackered they just saunter up, lick my legs and settle by me on the sofa. They also give me an excuse to get up out of bed - even if it's just to move to the sofa - on days when I'm feeling under the weather.

As for advice. I'd say be realistic and do research into the breed that will fit best with you and your hubby. Hubby may have to do a little more dog walking at times so make sure he's ok with that.
The kennel club have a tool on their website that asks questions about your lifestyle, how much exercise you can give, grooming, preferred size of dog, etc and then reports back on the breeds that may fit. If you don't have a specific breed in mind that might help.

Hi All hearts_circle.gif

I have to say Cara I used to love swimming but haven't been for a couple of years because I'm worried I wont be able to swim so maybe Aquarobics might be a good way to build up my confidence. I might have a look into it. Someone suggested that the physio or OT dept might even run classes, so thanks for reminding me!

Trude, I have 2 dogs. A black german shephard and a small terrier. I can't imagine life without them. Like Cara's dogs, mine seem to know when I'm well or feeling rubbish and adapt their behaviour accordingly.

Both my dogs (well even my dog who died two years ago) are rescue dogs, so if you can I'd ask that you consider a rescue dog before going to a breeder. I'm not evangelical about rescue dogs, but they are often so much more faithful. It's as if they know they've been given a second chance.

Happy puppy searching (even if it's a 2 yr old puppy lol)

Hugs
Di

Thanks for your advice Cara/Dianni - Kennel club website has been really useful as has the NCDL site. Sounds like you both get a lot of pleasure from your dogs, emotional support too. wink2.gif
