Holiday insurance and MS

Hi,

I am wondering what others do for holiday insurance.... I notified my insurance company of my MS... Which is now CIS... They asked me some specific questions regarding my disability... Which I could not answer fully because I don't know and supposedly the professionals don't either..... I do plan to ask my doctor, which of course she will not want any liability for I'm sure.

I just want to protect myself as being in South Africa without proper cover would be scary to say the least.

Any advise or tips gratefully received.

Just checking.... I don't think I need jabs... But do these type of holiday jabs affect your MS?

Xxx

There are companies that specialise in travel insurance for people with medical conditions Sandra. I have a list I can let you have in a PM if you'd like it.

Hello Sandra,

It's definitely worth shopping around for travel insurance, disability or not, to get the right price and package. Like all things, best to get a few quotes.

I used these people. http://www.disabilityholidaysguide.com/Cambridge/Disability-Travel-Insurance-1040.asp

They were very good, and there was virtually no additional costs or having to produce doctors letters etc.. Was really easy.

That sounds brill, the only thing is, I already have an annual policy that I've used once, it would be great to get one last use out of it.... But will defo look at them as they may be cheaper anyway if the current provider insure n go get silly with it.

Thank you.

Hi Sandra,

My travel insurance is one of the benefits of my bank account. It was in place when I was diagnosed and I pay a small supplement each year to add my MS to the cover.

As the others have said shopping around should help you to find the best cover for you, hopefully without breaking the bank!

Bigbird

Hi Sandra

I had to pay a small supplement when I went to Iceland last year. I thought it was expensive for the short period of time we were there but I think it would probably have been the same if I'd gone for longer.

I went to India a few years ago and whilst I had all the jabs and more, hubby was told he didn't need them. When I queried that situation I was told that it wouldn't be sensible for me to take any risks.

I didn't have any jabs to go to South Africa but I guess that would be dependant on where you're going in the country.

Thanks Hezza... I will check with the HSBC also... I will try and add it to my current policy if they don't go silly and then shop about I think and enquire with my bank.

Hi bigbird.... My trip will be to Johannesburg... So I'm thinking no jabs hopefully... I have a docs appt thurs to go through my blood tests etc so will double check..... Things like this an MS nurse would be useful for. :(

Thanks for your replies

Hi All   Haven't been in for a while but I really need some advice. We have just booked a holiday to Orlando and it was suggested that I hire a mobility scooter while I'm there. Has anyone done this before? Can you recommend any companies that will hire out a scooter for 14 days? What was your experience of using the company and using the scooter itself?   Sorry for all the questions but this will be the first time I'll have been on holiday since being diagnosed.
