Foot drop and Plantar fasciitis...

Hello All,

 

I developed Plantar fasciitis, which is an intense heel pain, worse after resting...when I say intense..twice I’ve got out on bed, put my foot down and fell, due to the pain in the heel being so bad, I just fell...doesn’t seem to be any reason for it...

 

However, apparently unrelated, I have foot drop on the same foot...double whammy or what!

 

GP really sympathetic but simply noted my records as she knew I could simply adjust painkillers to suit...although pain killer don’t touch the heel pain.

 

I referred myself to my neuro-physio, as I was attending her MS physio group anyway, and she’s referred me to the orthotic guy for some help.

I already have a 'foot- up' brace, but that simply makes the heel pain worse...so I’m hoping the orthotic/ surgical appliance guy can come up with something that will help.

 

It goes without saying, that a foot that drags along the ground, coupled with this bloody heel pain. (Plantar fasciitis) is exhausting, and sodding painful...

 

I can’t see the orthotic guy for 2 weeks, but hopefully he can come up with some sorta brace/ come splint that will help.

 

As per. They have no idea how long the foot drop may last, nor the Plantar fasciitis pain....

Sorry to hear that Scully,

 

I get constant foot drop factor but with no pain. The 'Foot Up' brace is a really good device but I can't wear mine for any length of time, its never that comfortable. Circulation problems are another thing to take into account, but I really don't know what to suggest for the pain. Hope the orthotic guy comes up with something!!!!

I've had both too - a good calf stretch is what you need. I find it very difficult to stretch mine, despite them being so tight so massage is also good. My ankles have somehow learnt to cope with the tight muscles as I have to try different angles etc. to get any stretch. I use that BetterYou magnesium oil spray but the night-time one, as the lavender disguises the smell quite nicely. Hubby really objected to the smell til I got that one :wink2:

Hello Sonia,

 

Yes I’ve been doing calf stretches, the physio checked that it was doing them correctly. I just hope that the orthotic guy can supply 'gel pad' insoles. Another lady said they worked for her. So maybe a combination of both will help eh?

      I have had this problem for awhile, the gp gave me a info sheet on it, I am more confused than ever. It says people who are inactive get it, people who walk too much get it. It says rest, then another paragraph says stretch. It used to be called policemans foot, also athletes get it. Gp told me to get some gel pads for heels, not sure where from. So if anyone has had this what did you do?

    • My freaky foot

      I managed to get a little clip of one of my more amusing symptoms yesterday. Well...I find it amusing mainly because it doesn't hurt and fascinates me but I have now discovered that it can freak people out too. My Mum declared it to be "scary". I pointed out that compared to being blind in one eye for a while a few twitches are nothing   It looks like something is moving or bubbling underneath my skin and reminds me a bit of the film "Gremlins": http://twitvid.com/USJZ3

    • buzzing vibrating foot

      when i put my neck down my foot vibrates. Its not an electric shock like feeling its just like a buzz or vibration that only last about 2 seconds. It wont do it again straight away but if i wait a couple of minutes it will. My chiro thought it was my back problem but im wondering if its ms? I dont feel it anywhere else just in my bad foot. The one thats cold to the touch that drops a bit and has the curly toes..

    • My foot is dead

      hi there. Ive posted a lot on the newbie forum but i have specific questions about my foot. I am at the moment getting physio as he suspects i have a disc or sciatic nerve problem but i recently got my ms diagnosis so im not sure whats what right now but i just thought id ask if anyone had a foot like mine. I have dont drop which gets slightly better if i sit with my knee bent for a short while i have hammer toes which worsen on a hard floor my foot is freezing cold to the touch but when ive been lying in bed for half an hour its as warm as the other one. I cant stand on either my heel or my toes because theres no strength at all and the whole thing just feels like a cold dead fish. Is this normal? Thankyou.

    • Foot Drop

      Hello,   I have just discovered this site and I am looking for some advice concerning a symptom of my wifes MS. She suffers from drop foot (a very loose ankle) which causes her much discomfort at night. Her foot just flops to the side and aches when she is in bed at night, which results in her not getting much sleep most nights. This is having a negative effect on her morale and she is constantly tired. I was just wondering whether there are any products out there that people with similar symptoms have tried?   She is an amazing woman, who generally just gets on with things but it hurts to see her unnecessarily exhausted when she has enough to deal with. Your help/advice would be much appreciated.   Many thanks Clarkie
