Shaking knees?!

Hi all

I have had A new symptom pop up these past two weeks. It started one evening when both my knees lost some sensation - they weren't completely numb, but I could tell there was some loss of feeling there. It didn't last too long, but since then, whenever I put pressure on my knees, for example, when I'm walking down the stairs - my knees shake like crazy. It's completely uncontrollable and is very frustrating. I'm also worried I might fall in the process. Going up the stairs is fine, but coming down, with each bend, they go crazy! Also when I'm standing up they tremor slightly.

I do have uncontrollable movements anyway (muscle jerks/twitches) but nothing like this shaking before. Again it doesn't do it if I'm lying down or something, just when I'm putting pressure on them (I'm a small girl as well, 5ft 5, 8 stone)

Does anyone else have this or similar ?

Thanks :)

Hi @Staceyann1989 , it's a bit quiet on the Forum presently, but we keep going.

Tremor is symptomatic of MS. This is understandably concerning when it affects your knees as it will destroy your confidence in the strength of your legs.

Contact your MS Nurse and let them know that you have this symptom. The first thing they normally do is ask you to get a urine sample checked at your Doctors. This is to rule out the possibility of a UTI, Which can make our MS symptoms flare right up.

There's some details about this symptom here:-

People with multiple sclerosis may have tremor to some degree. It can range from being a mild problem with coordination (ataxia) to being a disabling symptom of MS. Find...

Marina

Hi Staceyann and welcome! Many years ago, I had a sort of shaky feeling but in my thigh. Like you, it only happened when putting pressure on it, eg: going downstairs or standing up from sitting down. I didn't get any numbness, and it would only last for a few minutes at a time. It wasn't actual, visible shaking, it just felt like it.

That said, it’s unusual in MS, but not impossible, to be affected on both sides (eg, knees) at the same time; however, if the sensation is strong enough, it can feel like it’s on both sides even when it’s not.

I'd agree with Stumbler that a call to your MS nurse (if you have one yet) or otherwise to your GP might be an idea.

You're more than welcome @Staceyann1989 !

If you manage to find out what your shaky knees are due to, would you please let us know as it might help anyone else who might experience it too?

And please don't hesitate to ask about anything else

    • Shaking leg

hi everyone. As you know things are changing for me and im a bit more mobile at home but something is now more apparent and i still dont know if this is related to my ms ms not. Overall im stronger but my leg still shakes and trembles after a few minutes of being on it. Like it has no strength at all. Does anyone else have this problem and if so what can be done about it or did it get better? Overall im better than i was and my back pain is less but this leg just wont stop trembling. Not when im resting only when i walk on it and within seconds. Its obviously not that weak because it keeps me up but its not just the feeling of weakness like i have when i get what i call my spaghetti legs this is a visible obvious shake like im on a nerve or something. I have one of those bands to use but is it likely to help do you think?

    • Shaking arms and hands

Hi, today I've woken and noticed that my arms and hands a shaking really bad. It's so noticable to everyone.   I've normally managed to conceal the shaking from people so far, but not anymore.   I started baclofen 10mg on tuesday night if that makes a difference. I'm finding it extremely hard to hold things and writing is a no no today.   My legs are trembling and weak but not to the level my hands and arms are.   Steve

    • shaking all over

Another weird one from me. It's been warm and sticky here today but I'm away for a few days tomorrow so decided to have a bath, shave the legs etc (not easy when you're a chimp ) Anyway, I got out and felt rather weak and wobbly and decided the bath must have been too hot, I felt completely drained. Then I started to shake, it started in my hands then my legs the next thing I'm doing an impression of a breakdancing nodding dog. I took a diazepam and it slowly went although I still felt weak and drained with a headache and my legs were wobbly and my arms a little trembly for hours after.   Sorry, long one but does anyone else get this... it just came on out of the blue?
