New symptom and not Dx

Friday I had to sit down.  The backs of my legs, top and bottom, felt like I'd been up a huge flight of stairs with a heavy rucksack on board, stood at the top.  Wobbly. weak.    Some pain into my calf as well.

Happened a week ago as well, that time in my quads, a bit of pain and felt weirdly weak with a few shooting pains.

Covid, oh, boy, how can I get to see my GP.  They sent me  a message back in Sept about calling them but life was entrenched with covid then as now.  I need HRT as well.

I've seen the future and it doesn't look good.

@Happymama , GPs are still available to provide a "normal" service. Just give them a ring. Be assertive, but be polite.

How are things on the diagnosis front? Do you still have a Consultant investigating?

No, last one didn't want to help me because I'm 'not bad enough' after lying to me, saying I'd canx my December 9 appointment myself on my hospital record before I'd even receive the letter telling me about the appointment.  .  Am still waiting for my GP to find me another but covid came along and probably messed that up.

New symptom, lol.

Thought my hip had arthritis.  Pain, boy yes, limping for the last week. Some days worse, some better, some perfectly ok and then yesterday.  Ouch. This morning it was agony rolling over in bed.  Took painkillers, didn't work.  First clue.  By the afternoon the pain had moved from the front of the hip joint to bits of me not related like my tum and my sciatic nerve. Second Clue ...  It's ruddy well neuropathic electric shocks with muscular spasms.  Now it's gone but I'm left with lactic filled, very sore muscles.

And there I was thinking that it was nice and quiet for a change ...

@Happymama , it might be worthwhile mentioning this to your MS Nurse. A Neuro-physio assessment may be useful to check out your posture and gait.

We automatically compensate for weaknesses and this can introduce bad practice, which puts unnatural stress on muscles and joints.

Just a thought.

Hi there!  As yet, not DX so no MS nurse. I was about to get a neurologist that would believe me when Covid struck so never actually found out who it was.  Might have to ring the GP again.

As to the compensation - I don't have normal ankles (hyper mobile) and one ankle has been broken and rebuilt twice.  The geometry beneath that hip is screwed anyway.  I'm fighting that on all fronts, I do NOT want it fixing. I want to wear heels!  My back on that side is a bit sore but who knows if it's this horrible disease, or it's an injury?

Having a hot bath tonight to get the blood flow up and carry away all the products of inflammation, and two Brufen before bed.

Must go - look at the time!  Should have started tea fifteen minutes ago!

Geez, @Happymama  , you've been hanging about on this Forum for over four years. You're overdue on some answers!

Given this length of time not knowing, do you think you can pressurise your GP to try and escalate your problems. It's that or a Private Consultation. And this presumes that you have the finances available...........

Oh, wish i had money for a private consultation!  I'd have been there ten years ago.

I'm having a relapse.  Symptoms in new places, every single one.  Hurt to walk for the last three weeks, and more electric shocks.  The one in my neck is absolutely horrible.  The rest are just painful.  Had weakness in my butt, one side, while having something going on in the joint of my hip, torso to left leg, and groin which finally left after 8 days leaving me with groin strain that took a week to heal.  Coming down stairs for a time was a laugh a minute. I had to keep my left leg stiff, the glute would NOT support me.   That's better now but my hip joint is flaring up when I move.  Also can feel a little knot of spasm in a trapezius at the top.

Every day is different, lol.

I shall ring the GP tomorrow to find out what's what.  I'll have a lot less stress when the kids move out in September to Uni.

I'm thinking about investing in a walking stick.

@Happymama , I appreciate that money is pretty tight everywhere at the moment, but you should at least check out the potential cost, just to see whether it is definitely out of the question. I'm only talking about paying for the initial consultation to expedite any diagnosis. Then you could return to the NHS list for potential treatment.. Your GP should be able to obtain a cost.

If you could ensure that all your previous scans and tests were available that would really help. Your GP should be able to assist here.

You're not doing yourself any favours by blindly struggling around. You have probably picked up some bad habits whilst compensating for your struggles. So, talk to your GP about the possibility of a Neuro--physio assessment to check you out. That's not a normal physio, this one's a bit more specialised.

So, a bit to talk about with your GP,  methinks.

If you feel that a walking stick would be a useful acquisition, you should check out http://www.walkingsticks.co.uk . You'll be spoilt for choice! (Other retailers are available). :wink2:

Thanks for the link, Stumbler!

Getting in and out of the car can be a nightmare.  Had a few days off, now it's the front of hip and glute only.  And boy when it's here, it hurts to move.  When it's not, it's not. Just been to the shop, left the house, it came on, limped all the way there, then in the shop turned off, walked home, in house came on.  You just have to laugh.

Am off to buy a proper sturdy walking stick next weekend.  And a folding one for in case.  At least then people might not speed up the high street as I'm crossing the road. Was nearly knocked over last week by some lunatic doing 60 up the road (there's a blanket 30 mph all over the town) as was half way across when it struck.  Had a witness but no one caught the reg.  Even the bus speeds.  Makes me very cross.

I have the tingles across the skin of my shoulders again, too.  Feels funky.

Hi have seen those.  It's getting my left leg out that's difficult. Just hurts.  I park away from the kerb a bit so that I can put my foot down properly on the blacktop and lean on the right leg getting up.

PS have ordered a walking stick.  Thanks!

Leapt up to measure myself for it and realised that the issue has turned off.  Again.  Lol.

    • Odd symptom (probs not MS) and christmas cake with cheese

Hi all.   Am seeing the optometrist tomorrow within a 24 hour timeframe from report of symptoms (so serious) for flashes in the corners of my eyes when I move them, and a huge crop of really thick floaters.   This is ok, there's loads of info online.  I know what it is.     This is different:  Laid in bed (insomnia due to full moon interference, a story in itself) staring at the bookcase, I had a dark spot in the outer of my eye, which spread like powder in a cloud shape across my eye to the other side - I could see through the outer reaches of this, it was thinner there, so the powder analogy works.  Then it retraced very smoothly, and then came again three times in that eye, and twice in t'other.  A week or so later happened from above.  I can SEE this, as in close my eyes and it's in reverse colour.     There is nothing online about this, which is extraordinary in itself I think.     Also how else likes Christmas cake (or Genoa - my fave) with Cheshire or Wensleydale cheese?  I like them thickly sliced both.  The creaminess and acidity of the cheese, plus the same texture as the rich, sweet and fruity cake, makes them perfect flavour partners.

    • New Symptom - painful tugs across scalp (And Valerian)

This is fun.   Not.   Pain on scalp, spreads like the electric shocks on my foot, but I feel the tugging there and elsewhere, and pain.  Very like the neuralgia I had years ago.  Tugging there too. I get tugging on my hands sometimes.     Painkillers no help but I've read up on Valerian - I sleep absolutely rubbish, probably the perimenopause but also during the New Moon lunar phase, I average 8 hours across three nights.  Valerian apparently helps with nerve pain, ( A source of GABA) as well as being good at reducing anxiety and also getting you off at night.  I'm not on any other meds, rarely take brufen or paracetamol because they never help with my painful symptoms, and the migraine I get goes with aspirin, and that's rare too.   Took some after an hour of scalp hell and it seemed to work.  Perhaps I expected it to ...

    • is this an ms symptom?

Hi all ,   New to this forum , have not been diagnosed with ms and basically have been wondering if this is an ms symptom.   Was driving home from work about 6 weeks ago and my middle , third and little finger tips on my right hand started to hurt as if they were bruised. About half an hour later the exact same finger tips on my left hand started to feel exactly the same. It has lasted for about 5 weeks and then started to rectify but is still there a bit . Its just my fingertips and not my whole fingers and just the last three on each hand. Very strange. My question does ms present symmetrically like this?   Regards   James

    • Oh a new symptom, how delightful.

I've noticed recently that if I knead dough or use a paint brush, I get a really painful sensation in my hands. Apart from headaches and back pain I'm not used to pain with MS.   It usually stops after a while. I can only liken it to shin splints.   Is this 'spasticity'?   Just in time for Easter...*joy*   (Feel the sarcasm)

for the last five days, I have felt like I have a headcold. my head feels heavy, I am tired and am dizzy, particularly when I move. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have no other cold symptoms so I am thinking it may be a symptom of MS
