Large muscle, muscle spasm

Morning One and All,

Have had builders/decorators and flooring people in for the last 3 weeks. :artist:

But, kitchen/diningroom and utility all look fab! They are all coming back next week, to turn my downstairs shower room into a wet room for me. Will be so good to have a shower, on a seat, and wash my hair without falling over ! :bath2:

New problem for me seems to be with my 'Ham-strings' ( I think thats what they are called?) the large muscles that run from the back of my knee to my bottom) Mainly the left but sometimes on the right, one of them goes into spasm, the muscle tightens up and hurts like hell. :hearts_circle:

Another feature is that it seems to make one leg shorter than the other................so lots of :cowboy: going on.

Take baclofen, gabapentin and amitriptyline.....but it dosen't seem to stop these spasms in these large muscles.

Do any of you guys have any ways of easing it.....I have tried gentle stretches, but that just makes my toes cramp up! :wtf:

(One day Im going to try and do a whole post........................using only emoticons)

Scully,

Stretching should provide relief, but I agree, cramping is a potential problem. So, you need to know how to stretch to address the cramp.

And then you can look at general stretching to keep things moving.

It's a bit of a "use it or lose it" situation...................

Hi Scully

I too get bad spasms in my legs, I do stretches but a few years ago bought a vibrating plate which I personally find very good. My MS nurse, physio specialist don't like them. I am also going to be tested for a baclofen pump into my spine which I am not sure about. So all in all I have the big vibrator :cowboy: musles like elastic oh I wish :hearts_circle: but maybe Lindyloo's method guiness the best :artist:

Best wishes

Peter

Hi Scully :hearts_circle:

Have you spoken to your MS nurse? They may be able to refer you to a neuro physiotherapist (if you don't already see one).

I get cramps or maybe spasms because they don't hurt :cowboy: and stretching with the help of my daughter or hubby helps.

Hope they leave you alone soon.

Hi,

I started getting a massive spasm like sensation which went from my arm right down to my toes and shortened the left side of my body,it only lasted seconds but it hurt like hell and totally immobilised me:hearts_circle: !

I was pretty upset as I was getting too scared to go anywhere alone but my consultant prescribed a low dose of Tregretol Retard (Carbamazapine) and they worked instantly thank god!

My consultant described it as my nervous system back firing (what next!) but I have to say I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but this was horrible so I hope you get this sorted.

Cheerio for now

    • Muscle twitching

Hi all I have been diagnosed with MS for 18 months (remitting relapsing) and the last five weeks I have had muscle twitching! This has me really worried about motor neurone disease!! Seeing neurologist in 3 weeks!! Seen 4 different drs and they have tried to reassure me but it hasn't!! They all said it would be highly rare. Spoke to ms nurse and also said it would be extremely rare. Does anyone else have twitches. Grateful for any replies

    • Severe back spasm when standing

The worse thing now is the spasms of back pain I experience when standing for any longer than a couple of minutes. These disappear the moment I sit down. Has anyone any experience of this or any idea why it happens and what I can do about it? Thank you!

    • Does Baclofen help with muscle aches? If not, what does?

Good afternoon everyone. I started on my copaxone last August and have felt so well since I wished I had done it earlier. At my previous rate I should have had two relapses since then but I am relapse free and life feels good But, I am getting increasing pain in both legs and, sometimes my arms. The muscles feel weak and without strength - for example when I was doing my daughter's hair the other day I had to keep lowering my arms due to pain. My walking is now affected and the muscles hurt at rest. They are particularly bad when I first wake up. They feel stuff and achy but not really "spastic" if you know what I mean. The MS nurse suggested baclofen and my GP has prescribed it but I wondered if anyone had had similar symptoms to these and if the baclofen (or anything else) worked. Any words of wisdom would he gratefully received. Thanks, Sam

    • Is it a throat spasm?

Hi all, thought I would run this past you, if I might.   Last night whilst asleep I was woken by the feeling that my throat had stopped working. I couldn't breathe or swallow. It lasted for seconds, but I sat up in bed coughing , choking and gasping. I lie on my stomach not my back and don't snore.   It has happened at least ten times over the last few months and always at night whilst asleep.   Does anyone else experience this.   Tia,   Sam x
