Itching and tingling face nose and ears

Pierpaolo

Hi, let me introduce myself... I'm Pierpaolo and I’m an Italian guy who's actually using Google translate 🤣

I haven't been diagnosed with MS but I wanted to ask you for advice on some symptoms I'm having and which are destroying me. I am a 25 year old boy who has been suffering from Fibromyalgia since I was 16 and was diagnosed at 19.

I have had many symptoms including pain, tiredness, severe anxiety, memory problems, etc. It was very hard to live with all this and in reality I was also able to manage the situation well by changing my lifestyle, diet and way of thinking. I was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but, about 3 and a half years ago due to an injury, both feet, after an initial period of pain, begin to tingle.

Initially, my brain went crazy, making me anxious. After a period of 4 months, one night while I was trying to fall asleep I initially felt tingling in my face, and from there the life that I was trying to build and that I dreamed of began to destroy itself. I have been living with this itching/tingling in my face for 3 and a half years and this is exhausting and driving me crazy. I have had several visits and tests, brain MRI, thyroid ultrasound, chest, several psychiatric visits and I have changed many drug therapies but the result is the same. Nothing. Only side effects. I'm in pieces...

I wanted to ask you, do any of you have or have had similar symptoms? Could it be undiagnosed MS?

Can anxiety generate similar symptoms in such a chronic way?

Thanks and sorry for the forum invasion.

Hi Pierpaolo  and welcome to this very quiet part of the internet. It seems the majority of Forum traffic now goes to Social Media platforms for quicker responses.

Anyway, Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) are both auto-immune conditions and do share a lot of symptoms. Is it MS? That's a difficult question. I would have thought that your brain MRI scan had ruled that out, especially with your facial symptoms. However, a comprehensive MRI scan for MS usually covers the spine as well.

Having said that, you have mentioned your anxiety. That comes as no surprise when dealing with incurable conditions. However, anxiety and stress need to be managed as they can cause their own symptoms.

This Forum is unable to provide diagnoses for you as we are not medically trained. This is the job for medical professionals, e.g. Neurology professionals. They should be able to provide advice and help with symptom management.

Going back to anxiety, can I suggest Mindfulness? This is a  meditation-based approach which practices the concept of living in the moment. This can be quite mentally calming.

    • Face numbness - not yet diagnosed

Hi Thought I'd come here for a bit of advice   I am 49 female and for the last few days have been experiencing numbness in my face - like when a dentist does a filling. My tongue and gums are also numb I have had numbness in the hands for years, possibly due to a compressed nerve in my neck (diagnosed as tennis elbow, then spondylosis via mri, my feet also tingle with strange feelings in my knees   I don't have any pain anywhere apart from occasional lower lumber and mid back pain.  I don't have any double vision, slurred speech. I walk a lot and keep relatively fit   I've done some research hence being here. I know that it generally affects younger people, but can arise in my age group.   I've read that if the problem is MS that it could take months/ years to get a proper diagnosis and that there isn't much treatment available.   Early next year I will be 50 and I am planning a massive long-awaited holiday to America and Canada, however, I am fully aware that if I go to the Drs and they refer me to a neurologist I then can't get travel insurance due to having an 'undiagnosed condition'   I've looked at the medicines available and they seem to prevent flare-ups by 30-50% but most of the treatment is physio, exercise, cognitive therapy etc  (self managed)    I don't know if I have MS, but if I go to the DRs and get a referral - then my 50th birthday gift won't happen    Any advice - have I read the treatments wrong - is there a point going to the Drs at this point -   how long do referrals take   Thanks for your help

    • Numbness/Tingling/Pain

Hi all   Sorry it's been a while but have been really busy with work and doing up the house.   I was wondering if anyone has experienced numbness in their right arm and hand but is a bit painful when you try and use said arm and hand (doesn't help that I'm right handed).   Also, I think I've started to have the same sensation down the rest of that side of my body but it's hard to tell.   Any ideas on how to relieve this just a little bit?   Terri
