Hi Frances,

I have very similar symptoms and having problems walking can indeed be scary. Anything like this that is worrying you is best taken up with your MS Nurse , if you have one, or the GP. The more knowledge the neurologists have about you the better and I think we are all guilty of thinking that we don't want to bother anyone with it all. So best at least keep a note of it and make that call.

When I was first diagnosed I didn't understand the walking problem. I was in fact trying to 'overcome it' but in reality was in fact simply only 'overdoing' it.

The effect I get is that as I walk so I become more 'weak' at first a bit like having a bad ankle. This had me getting 'stuck' and being stranded leaning against walls, thinking 'Christ how am I going to get home!' This is scary. I have now learnt the importance of exercise as a 'measured dose' that is working within your abilities. Its important to keep going but its also important to stay within the abilities you have. In theory doing this will boost your confidence a bit.

We are all different and things like this with MS are also very variable so don't get to stressed out about it. yes it is scary but you need to find out what you can do while staying within that zone of not overdoing it. Don't forget that with MS you are 'working' that brain much harder than if you were without the condition. When I overdo it, which is all the time, I get a big increase in headaches and the dreaded 'deep pains' in my arms and legs.....Its all balance in everything.

Hope that helps a bit

Nick

Hi Frances,

The lack of sleep may be making things worse for you. If I've not slept well, or am feeling run down, then my symptoms can be much worse.

Take it as easy as you can and hopefully things will improve. If you're worried and it's not improving then call your GP or MS Nurse if you have one.

    • burning feet

Hiya ive had terrible burning feet especially at nite. I cant sleep because of it. I even have my feet sticking out of the duvet at nite which is completely alien to me cause I normally have really cold feet. I have it during the day too and most days I stubble around with bare feet. Is this a symptom of MS OR just my MS or could it be a reaction to rebif (but I have had this before I started rebif and in the extreme heat we had.)   Does any body suffervwith this   Vanessa x

    • Unable to lift feet

Hi, yesterday I found myself unable to lift my feet. Couldn't even wiggle toes. I walked the dogs in field as usual, they run around whilst I watch, and then got home sat down and had a brew. Problem was when I went to get up, struggled like mad to stand but then found my feet were dragging along floor and turn inwards. Really tight cramping and stiffness on the outer side of the front of my legs. Couldn't believe that I couldn't walk properly. No matter how hard I concentrated I could not turn my feet up, couldn't even wiggle my toes.   Now I have the odd instance where I've sort of tripped over my feet (the one where it feels like you've walked up a ramp and not picked feet up far enough) but nothing of this level. It lasted nearly all of the day, no matter how much I rested or even tried to walk if off in the afternoon. It seemed that they just wouldn't play. My daughter was really good as usual and inisted that I lean/ support myself on her (bless her). I was wondering if this is the 'dropfoot' that people experience or more on the side of 'Just the muscles causing the problem'   Steve
